Allergy Testing

Our allergy testing in Essex, helps identify triggers so you can live healthier and symptom-free with tailored care from our private GPs.

Procedure

Allergy testing begins with a detailed review of your symptoms and medical history. This helps determine which type of test is most appropriate. We offer several types of allergy assessments:

  • Skin Prick Testing: A small amount of allergen is placed on your skin, usually on the forearm or back. A tiny, shallow scratch introduces the substance just below the surface. The skin is then monitored for a reaction, such as redness or swelling, which typically appears within 15–20 minutes.
  • Blood Tests (specific IgE testing): A simple blood draw is performed to check for allergen-specific antibodies. This test is particularly useful when skin testing isn’t suitable, such as in individuals with certain skin conditions or those taking medications that interfere with skin test results.
  • Patch Testing: In some cases, particularly for suspected contact allergies (e.g., metals, cosmetics), patch testing may be used. Allergens are applied to patches, which are worn on the skin for 48 hours to observe delayed reactions.

(Test results help us develop a personalized plan, which may include avoidance strategies, symptom management, or referral for further allergy-specific treatment).
