Top Tips for Summer Health

  1. Always apply sunscreen, preferably SPF30-50. Spending long periods in the sun on sizzling summer days is what we all want to do, sit back and relax, but it’s not all fun and games when you get sunburnt. Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays causing sunburn, skin cancer and premature ageing.
  2. Keep hydrated. Hot weather and sweating can cause dehydration in your body, be sure to drink lots of fluids. Lack of water is harmful to your body  drink 6-10 glasses per day.
  3. Exfoliate! Heat and excessive sun exposure causes damage to the skin, meaning an increase of dead skin cells. To keep your skin healthy, smooth and silky, exfoliate to keep your summer glow.
  4. Wear a hat. Protecting your head from excessive heat and sun exposure is vital in the summer months, too much sun = no more fun! Absorbing too much heat than the body can deal with can lead to heat stroke, causing symptoms including nausea, headaches, extreme tiredness, dehydration, vomiting and fainting.
  5. Eat cool foods. Foods often taste better when chilled, and naturally colder foods feel good in the summer months. Eating cold foods such as fruits, salad, ice lollies and yogurt are low-calorie options that make you feel cooler from the inside out.
  6. Protect your lips. The suns rays tend to dry the lips delicate tissue, causing cracked lips and flaking skin. Apply a natural lip balm with SPF15 or higher to keep your perfect summer pout.
