Acne treatments

Acne is an extremely common skin condition causing oily skin, spots, and blackheads which often affects the face, chest, arms, neck and back areas. Often sufferers will have an excessive number of spots, and can be painful and cause scarring. The biggest issue that we see from our patients is the embarrassment it causes and the lack of self-confidence, but what many of them don’t know is that there are so many options for them to clear their acne!

We’ve all been through a stage at some point in our lives, usually in our teenage years that we have breakouts, but many of our clients have this all the time and into their adult years. Adult acne can be very distressing for sufferers, but there is always a solution whether its active acne or acne scarring.

For those who have had acne in the past, maybe severely in their childhood, they will often have scarring which causes dimpling and discolouration in the skin surface. The word “scar” seems to scar people as we all think a scar is permanent, and yes they are, however we offer treatments that reduce signs of scarring and clear the skin to get you back to your youthful self.

Our favourite treatment for acne scarring is PlexR, a device that utilises plasma through ionisation, in simpler terms it vapourises the skin tissue. PlexR is our favourite treatments as the results are forever, you will often only need the one-off treatment to rid yourself of the horrible memories of your childhood breakouts. The device creates a scabbing over the treated areas, and once the scabs have fallen off you will be left fresh faced.

PlexR is a non-invasive medical procedure and can, at times, be an intense treatment and is therefore not suited to everyone. As an alternative to this, we offer a range of Skin Peels and Micro Needling. Chemical Skin Peels work into the depth of your skin, removing damaged skin and dead skin cells, and resurfacing skin tone and texture. Some of our patients combine their Skin Peels with Micro Needling, but other use Micro Needling as a stand-alone treatment that works wonders!

One of our regular patients suffered with acne scarring, active acne and uneven skin texture and opted for Micro Needling and her results were incredible! Micro Needling is a natural treatment to improve the skin texture and soften scars and pigmentation by continuously piercing the skin to the depth of the dermis.

However, for those who have active acne, this is a whole different story. For most, active acne causes more insecurities than acne scarring, and we aim to help all our patients clear their skin and gain back their confidence.

Acne first appears between the ages of 13-18, but for some patients, they have a case of adult acne. This can be even more embarrassing than having is in your teenage years, as many people think we should be out of that stage, but it happens to the majority. For those suffering with acne, we offer a variety of treatments. Again, we can offer the Skin Peels and Micro Needling, however our most popular and successful treatment is our prescribed Obagi Medical range.

Obagi Medical products are our favourite range of skin care products that really do work. Many people do not believe that creams, exfoliators etc. benefit your skin, and many of them don’t, but Obagi is a medically recognised range that show exceptional results.

We offer two Obagi ranges for acne, Nu-Derm and CLENZIderm.

Obagi Nu-Derm is a complete system suited for both dry and oily skin, specially formulated to help transform the environmental effects on the skin and natural ageing. Made up of 6-7 products, the skin shows massive improvement in just one week and your face will be cleared up in no time!

Specially made for acne, however, is the CLENZIderm range. CLENZIderm M.D. System is the complete acne treatment formulated for normal to oily skin, to help treat acne where it starts. The system consists of 3 products; foaming cleanser, pore therapy, and therapeutic lotion. The cleanser unclogs pores and washes away dead skin cells, combined with 2% salicylic acid it helps clear and cool irritated skin. The Pore Therapy has similar uses, as well as preparing the skin for the next step of the treatment, therapeutic lotion. This lotion is a lightweight acne treatment with 5% BPO uniquely formulated to help clear acne.
